Kent residents might be able to keep their gloves off a little longer this year, according to new data showing when frost will first hit towns across the South East.
The First Frost Dates 2025 map, released by heating retailer Glowing Embers, reveals that while inland areas like Guildford could see frost as early as 1 November, coastal towns such as Dover may not freeze until 21 December. Brighton is forecast to experience its first frost around 11 December, while Oxford could see ice forming by 21 November.

The study suggests frosts are arriving later than they did 40 years ago, particularly along southern and coastal regions. The Met Office’s State of the UK Climate 2025 report shows the number of frost days has fallen by around 25% since the 1980s.
A survey conducted by Glowing Embers found 77% of respondents believe climate change is responsible for the delay in the first frost each year.
Across the UK, the earliest frost is expected in Carlisle, Alnwick, Harrogate, Lincoln, and Oxford (21 November), while Newquay is forecast to be the latest — not freezing until New Year’s Day.
Residents are being urged to check their heating systems and prepare their homes before temperatures drop.
